Back in 2023, I thought it’d be interesting to see what would happen if I embodied the process of an AI generative image model. So I asked people online to send me their prompts—and I responded by sketching each one quickly in black ink on paper, then emailing it back to them.
Thousands of drawings later—and exactly 6,620 prompts I still haven’t drawn (sorry!)—I’m excited to announce that Prompt-Brush 1.0 is becoming a book. It will be published on September 9, 2025.
Inside, you'll find 384 pages of drawings and reflections on what it means to create in the age of artificial intelligence.
If you want to dive deeper into the story behind Prompt-Brush, here’s an essay I wrote for The New York Times last year: “I’m Just a Human Sitting in Front of a Stack of Blank Paper, Sketching as Fast as I Can.”
Last week, I received the first printer proofs—it was moving to see a project that had mostly lived online begin to take physical form.
As a thank-you for supporting the book and the project, I’ll mail you a personalized postcard featuring your own prompt, hand-drawn by me.

Thank you to everyone who submitted prompts and shaped this project from day one.
Consider getting a copy of the book for yourself—or as a gift for someone who might love it.
